Diner's delight a mini pearl  1/16/2008
Man has rare find in plate of fried oysters

BY LYNN OLANOFF
The Express-Times
WASHINGTON | Mike McHenry thought he had chomped down on part of an oyster shell.

The Washington Township resident was about halfway through his plate of fried oysters at Russo's Ristorante on Wednesday night Jan. 9 when he bit something hard.

It turned out to be something far rarer than a piece of shell. McHenry had bitten down on a pea-sized pearl.

It's an extremely uncommon occurrence, according to Gef Flimlin, a marine extension agent with Rutgers Cooperative Extension. MORE
